A little more context
I moved to the U.S. in 2020—in the middle of a pandemic, from Russia, without speaking fluent English and without much of a safety net. Apparently I like doing things the hard way.
Starting over taught me to pay attention in a different way. When words don’t come easily, you notice expressions, body language, quiet moments, and all the little things people communicate without saying anything at all. That perspective has shaped the way I photograph.
I don’t believe beautiful photos come from perfect posing.
They come from people feeling comfortable enough to be themselves.
That’s why I don’t expect you to know what to do in front of a camera. Most of my couples tell me they’re awkward, camera-shy, or have never had professional photos taken before. Five minutes in, they’re laughing, talking to each other, and forgetting I’m even there.
I love photographs that feel honest. The kind that remind you what the day actually felt like—not just what it looked like.
If you’re looking for perfectly curated images where every smile is directed and every moment is staged, I’m probably not the right photographer for you.
But if you care about genuine connection, quiet in-between moments, and photos that still feel like you years from now, I’d love to hear your story
10 things about me
1. My real name is Ekaterina.
Most people call me Kate. It’s easier for everyone involved.
2. I’m terrible at small talk.
But ask me about travel, art, psychology, different cultures, or your favorite movie, and we’ll probably end up talking for hours.
3. Black coffee and 90s grunge are my creative fuel.
Bonus points if it’s a rainy day.
4. You don’t need to know how to pose.
Seriously. That’s my job, not yours. Most of my couples start by saying, “We’re awkward.” They all leave saying, “That was actually fun.”
5. I’m good at reading people.
I adapt to your energy instead of expecting you to perform for the camera. Whether you’re loud and goofy or quiet and reserved, we’ll find what feels natural to you.
6. Dogs are always welcome.
Just know they’ll probably become the main character for at least a few photos.
7. I love movement more than perfection.
Walk, dance, run, laugh, hug too long, mess up your hair. Those are usually my favorite moments.
8. My favorite part of photography isn’t the camera.
It’s meeting people I never would’ve crossed paths with otherwise.
9. I care a lot more about how your photos feel than how “perfect” they look.
Years from now, I want you to remember the butterflies, the laughter, and the way you looked at each other—not whether every strand of hair stayed in place.
10. We’ll probably get along if…
…you don’t take yourselves too seriously, value genuine connection over perfect poses, and believe the best memories are usually the unplanned ones.
My approach
I think photographs become more valuable with time.
At first, they’re beautiful images.
Then, almost without you noticing, they become tiny time machines.
Years from now, you’ll look at them and remember things you didn’t even realize you’d forgotten—the way your partner laughed, how the afternoon light filled the room, the nerves before the ceremony, or how it felt to hold someone’s hand.
That’s the kind of photography I care about.
Not photos that make you look like strangers with perfectly practiced smiles.
Photos that make you recognize yourselves.
The kind where you can almost hear the laughter, remember the conversation, and feel exactly what that moment was like.
Because life has a funny way of moving faster than we expect.
The ordinary moments quietly become extraordinary simply because they can’t happen twice.
My job is to notice those moments, preserve them honestly, and give them back to you—so years from now, you’ll remember not just what your life looked like, but what it felt like.
