I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Milwaukee, which really just means I shoot what’s actually happening — not what I’ve arranged to happen. No forced poses, no “look here and smile,” no interrupting a real moment to get a “better angle.”
I know how uncomfortable it can feel standing in front of a camera — not knowing what to do with your hands, worrying you look stiff or awkward. That’s exactly why I stay close but quiet: I’ll give you gentle guidance when you need it — a small prompt, a place to stand, something to do with your hands — and then step back and let the moment happen naturally. You don’t have to know how to pose. That’s my job, not yours.
My style blends cinematic, film-inspired tones with an honest, observational approach: warm light, natural color grading, and images that read more like a story than a checklist of poses.
I work with couples across Milwaukee and the surrounding areas — Wauwatosa, Brookfield, Bay View, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, and out toward Lake Country including Nashotah, Delafield, and Oconomowoc. Whether you’re getting married downtown, eloping somewhere quiet in Wisconsin, or celebrating with a big backyard reception, I bring the same documentary approach: stay close, stay quiet, and let the day unfold the way it actually happens.
you care more about being present with your people
than chasing perfect, staged photos
you’re worried you’ll feel awkward in front of the camera
and don’t want to spend your day posing
you want to experience your day fully
and trust the photos to reflect it honestly and naturally
If that sounds like you – let’s talk!

If you’ve ever said, ‘We’re not photogenic,’ this is for you. I’m Kate, the person behind Kato Photo, and I photograph weddings the way they actually happen
I observe first, guide gently when needed. I won’t over-pose or interrupt moments as they happen.
I’ll help with location scouting, timeline building, and making sure you feel comfortable. You’ll get story-focused coverage, natural posing, a cinematic gallery, and full printing rights. No stiff smiles. No pressure to perform. Just real moments.
I care deeply about how your day actually feels. I want you to be present, relaxed, and enjoying it. My goal is for photography to feel like it quietly fits into your day, not something you have to perform for.
Almost every couple starts by saying, “We’re awkward in photos.”
And almost every couple ends the day saying, “That was actually really fun.”
That’s exactly how it should be — easy, real, and true to you.
I. We plan with intention
I’ll help with timing, locations, and what to expect — so nothing feels rushed or awkward.
II. We stay present
I guide gently when needed and step back when it matters, so you’re actually living it, not performing for it.
III. We end up with images that feel true
Honest photos that reflect how the day felt — not just how it looked.
