There’s something really special about engagement sessions that include more than just the couple.
For Rachel and Dan’s Villa Terrace engagement session in Milwaukee, we started the evening with their twins along for the first part of the shoot, and I honestly couldn’t imagine telling their story any other way. This season of life isn’t just about planning a wedding—it’s about celebrating the family they’ve already built together.
It’s easy to see why Villa Terrace is one of the most sought-after engagement photo locations in Milwaukee. Inspired by an Italian Renaissance villa, the property combines elegant architecture, beautifully landscaped gardens, and stunning views of Lake Michigan—all within walking distance.
One of my favorite things about Villa Terrace is how much variety it offers. During a single session, you can capture romantic garden portraits, timeless photos on the grand stone staircases, and beautiful images overlooking the lake. Every corner feels a little different, which makes the final gallery feel diverse while still telling one cohesive story.
Since Rachel and Dan wanted to include their twins, we began the session with family portraits while the kids were still full of energy.
There was plenty of running around, hugs, giggles, and all those little in-between moments that make family photos feel real. I don’t believe every image needs to be perfectly posed. Some of my favorite photographs happen when families simply interact with each other and forget the camera is there.
We spent the rest of the session exploring Villa Terrace.
Those quieter moments always have a different feeling. Wedding planning can get busy, so having an hour to simply walk together, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company often becomes one of the best parts of the experience.
Rachel and Dan made my job easy. They were completely comfortable with one another, and instead of focusing on perfect poses, we focused on movement, conversation, and letting the moments unfold naturally. Those are usually the photos couples end up loving the most.
Yes! Villa Terrace requires a photography permit for professional sessions.
The permit is an additional cost and is one of the more expensive location permits in the Milwaukee area, but in my opinion, it’s absolutely worth it. The combination of elegant architecture, gardens, and lake views is hard to find anywhere else, and it creates a timeless backdrop that photographs beautifully in every season.
If you’re thinking about planning your engagement session here, I’m happy to help walk you through the permit process and answer any questions before booking.
Villa Terrace works beautifully year-round, and every season offers something a little different. Summer brings lush greenery, fall adds warm colors, and even the quieter months highlight the property’s incredible architecture.
For outfits, I usually recommend timeless, neutral colors that complement the stone buildings and gardens without competing with them. After booking, you’ll receive my engagement session guide with outfit tips, location advice, and everything you need to feel prepared for your session.
Rachel and Dan, thank you for trusting me to capture such a meaningful chapter for your family. It was such a joy spending the evening with all four of you, and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding day.
If you’re looking for a Milwaukee engagement photographer and are considering Villa Terrace for your engagement session, I’d love to help you plan a relaxed, meaningful experience that feels true to you.
