From The Domes to Geneva Lake: An Intimate Wedding Story
I first met Caroline and Brittany at the Mitchell Park Domes. Well, I met one of them first, because it was a surprise proposal and the other one had no idea I was there to photograph it. I still love that day. The light in the Domes is soft and green, and the moment itself was so them.
So when they reached out about their wedding, I was really happy. It’s not often I get to photograph a couple from the proposal all the way to the wedding.
They kept the day small. We started with a first look at a private property that belongs to their family. It was quiet, just the two of them and me, and they had time to actually take it in. I didn’t have to direct much. I mostly stayed out of the way.
After that we drove to The Upper Deck at Pier 290 in Williams Bay for dinner with their family and closest friends. It sits right on Geneva Lake, so the views did a lot of the work. There were toasts, a lot of laughing, and some happy crying too. It felt relaxed and easy, like a dinner with people who really know each other.
I loved how personal this wedding was. They didn’t try to make it bigger than it needed to be. They just spent the day with the people who matter to them.
Caroline and Brittany, thank you for having me at both of these moments. I’m so glad I got to be there.
Planning an intimate wedding in Lake Geneva or Milwaukee? I photograph couples who hate fake moments (but love each other).
